Surprise... Look who's hanging out on page 180 of the latest issue (Jan 2010) of Cleo Magazine!!!
Since spotting my home featured on Made By Girl blog, Lifestyle features editor Joanna Barry has been busy putting together a page around the things I do and make! In an issue bursting with style - well it was curated by fashion designer Alice McCall - CLEO invites you to "have a perve through the window of the coolest pads from here and OS (minus the AVO)".
A big thank you to Joanna, who did a lovely job of it - and choosing some fabulous "Get the Look" items all of which I (ahem) have to get!!! (I really really want that cutlery now!!!). And my gratitude also goes to Jennifer Ramos (Made By Girl) for pointing the way! xxx
Here's an idea I've been toying with and I'll be offering this at the Christmas Handmade Market this Saturday here in Canberra. Make up a set from my jewellery collection and have it gift boxed for free, ready to sneak under the tree for Christmas. There are loads of combinations to choose from, but here are some of my faves...
Which is your favourite combo?
Pssst: Not in Canberra? Make your wishes known, I'm sure something could be arranged ;-)
As the next installment of Canberra's UPmarket approaches FAST!!! I have been busy busy busy preparing some new fabulous goodies to offer on the day. These are a limited run of handbags, some use thrifted retro fabrics and some are hand printed by yours truly...
I'm more than a bit in luuurve with this green curtain fabric (in excellent condition) and have used the same for a clock face and a lamp shade!! Heh heh!
Above shows both sides of the same bag, hand printed on natural linen... gorgeous. And I have another with spots instead of stripes.
Check out Canberra's Handmade Market on November 21st at the Yarralumla Woolsheds, it's going to be huge! xxx
A few new goodies I've been making in preparation for the upcoming Handmade Market... fun spring and summer colours and new shapes and ideas. Filligree wood pieces in green, pink, milk white and sunny yellow, bow tie necklaces in black and white prints, and oversized fabric-covered 'pearl' necklaces...
And my signature Tango & James stripe ribbon shapes "I've Got Fans" and "Some like it Ruff"...
Up next, I'll show you the furniture and lamps I'll have in store for Handmade...
Don't miss Canberra's Handmade Market 10-4 Saturday September 12th at Yarralumla Woolshed, off Cotter Road.
Another chair project and the realisation that I have a chair problem! I take pity on neglected and nearly destroyed chairs and take it upon myself to give them a new life as a covetable item. So here are my most recent street urchins...
These photos show the before and after of the chair and ottoman. I have 2 of each to play with, and started with one of each. Both had tatty vinyl coverings (the ottomans also covered in fabric), so they were stripped and recovered. The back rest of the chair was finished with hand stitching, but the hidden parts were done with the staple gun.
Gorgeous, though I'd love to keep them for myself, my house (and my husband) can only tolerate so many odd chairs. These will be coming with me to the next Handmade Market on September 12th. But secretly, I really wouldn't really mind if they don't sell - I'm sure I could find a spot somewhere... just don't tell my husband!
Nina's been one busy mamma for a while and here's a few reasons why... I have been making cushions, covering and colouring lamps and styling them up ready to serve to Canberra's Handmade Market this Saturday (at Canberra's Albert Hall). Preparations appear to be complete... so may I introduce Tango & James nest Autumn 2009...
If you are in town, please stop by the market and say hello - I'll be up on the stage inside the hall... can't wait!
Here's a little frock I made a little while ago to wear to Canberra's Thoroughbred Park, to be a judge of the fashions on the field! Naturally off-the-rack wouldn't do and something unique was called-for. I used this adorable exclamation fabric from Tessuti Fabrics (love!) and without using any pattern whatsoever...
I managed to pull it off! A gathered neck with stand-up collar fitted shift. Worn with black leather triple buckle belt, vintage black gloves, satin peep toe heels with cutie ruffles, Chanel bag and fascinator by friend, Deanna Mann. Fun!
Tuesday night: Won 2 delapidated chairs (in fetching government 'greige') on online auction. Wednesday afternoon: Collected chairs (from Allbids) and bought fabric (from Addicted to Fabric)
Thursday afternoon: Chair re-upholstery complete.
Time waits for no chair! These pretties will be joining me at the Handmade UPmarket on Saturday, hope to see you there too! Love Nina x
Here are a few more Tango & James goodies you can expect to see at Canberra's Handmade UPmarket on February 7th, some (hopefully) irrisistable lamps to add colour and zest to you glamorous boudoir or fabulous nest...
